Summary
A journey to Old San Juan, for a good meal. Starting with the ” Global Warming” drink, a fiery 3 Chili spherical ice cube that slowly melts into a hibiscus & basil infused Corralejo Reposed Margarita, the longer I waited the hotter it got….)! The Popcorn Shrimp was literally shrimp with popcorn…!Cilantro & garlic grilled shrimp lacquered with anejo tequila
that sits a top poblano guacamole, and heirloom ancho-chili spice popcorn was very good. My next corse Paella was a little disappointing, but a good different. The Paella was done sushi esque, which was bite size pieces of crispy andulsian styled paella filled with smoked chicken, peas & peppers flavored with a saffron- garlic espuma and a chorizo-tomato sauce.- it missed the boat. The Hand rolled Black Truffle Pappardelle pasta with wilted spinach, summer truffle & marsala butter was cold, not hot like the summer…( The Warm Banana & Butterscotch Bread Pudding with Brazilian nut & aged rum ice cream was a good finisher. The start to the meal was great, but the middle dishes slowed it to the finish line. Chef/Owner Peter Schintler, had worked at Le Cirque, put together a very good menu, but on this adventure to Old San Juan, he just missed the target & the LoneDiner fires 3 Silver Bullets on this adventure
