Summary
Part of a long weekend adventure in the BIG Apple with a Trusted Scout(TS)( who was injured, but rose to the occasion to complete our mission). Simon & the Whale ( gotta love the name) in The Freehand hotel was a fun journey to a locale with a lot of energy/vibe. Besides the obligatory bottle of Rose(It was 95+ outside), we ordered a bit of everything. Starting with the black bread(taramasalata?) , then the Chicken Liver Pate with apricot chutney, then venturing on to the Arctic Char Ceviche with grapefruit, fennel, and aleppo aguachile(whatever that is something like a water based chili? if that sounds correct). It was tasty & the little gem salad was just fine & the flat bread was a bit fat. At this point there was a lot of carbs on the table( which was walked off later on in the journey). The pasta with pine nuts & kale was good but the picture made it look better…..) Had to go for 2 desserts to beat the heat. The Brioche donuts were a bit of a disappointment with saffron custard along with raspberry jam, meyer lemon, & carmel. The 2nd dessert was a Grapefruit Panna Cotta with semolina, & olive oil cake, and citrus crumble…tart…The finish to was a new drink for the LD, which was Nonino a grappa/digestif which also means Farewell Grandaddy( when you google things you get a lot of worthwhile/less info….). It was definitely a fun day & capped off with an hour walk to complete this journey. The LD on this journey fires up 3 Silver bulletts. The food was good, the atmosphere was fun, & the company was ExtraOrdinary, a trusted scout knows their food & beverage…..)Happy Trails & On to the next culinary adventure….
