Summary
Another journey to Downtown LA, to Chef Ray Garcia( Esquire Magazine’s Chef of the Year), and one of the best new restaurants of 2015, didn’t hit it on all cylinders on this trip. The Mariachigroni drink was ok, which contained El Silence Mezcal( it was very quiet in the restaurant as well), Hibiscus infused APEROL, Bitter Truth( really that’s what they call these bitters, so i will be truthful!). The refund lentils & cheese were ok, Pollo Prensado( Chicken thigh, Chicken skin,& CC) was just ok as well. The Enchiladas was good with Huitlacoche, Squash, Rajas, Quesadilla, & Charred Eggplant sauce. The Abuelita Hot chocolate desert, with ancho-chocolate cake, alpaco grenache, with candied cocoa nibs in Abuelita Broth, wasn’t that tasty considering all the ingredients…… Another place that didn’t live up to the HYPE… The LD always has problems rating Mexican food high, but I made the journey & it was ok, & will shoot 3 Silver Bullets on this occasion giving them some benefit of the doubt, however, there are other places that I’ll hit on the trail, before I venture back. Update…another adventure & the LD went back with Trusted Scout & I can’t describe all that we had, but the food & the experience was elevated & was much closer to the hype. It pays to give second chances, since this was well worth the journey/uber downtown. The LD fires 4 Silver Bullets on this occasion which was very enjoyable! The journey continues….
